View Full Version : New FFC and Connector Boards Are Not Upgrades

We want to clarify the technical reasons for installing the new flat flexible cable (FFC) and connector boards as discussed in several forum posts. Due to firmware changes that make the homing sensor obsolete, the four pins set aside for the homing sensor are no longer needed. Thus, the original 18 pin FFC cable has been replaced by a 14 pin FFC, as well as corresponding connectors on the PCB boards. This is NOT an upgrade in any way and only a slightly different replacement for these components and does not improve the performance of any properly functioning machine.

Component simplicity and a small price reduction per PCB are the main reasons for these changes. Side benefits include a larger FFC contact pitch and slightly increased connector engagement. Moving forward, LHR will no longer stock the 18 pin FFC cable or the corresponding PCB boards. Therefore, any machine that comes in for service with a damaged home/probe sensor, FFC cable, or PCB board will have the 14 pin FFC “Bundle” installed.

Several customers have expressed interest in purchasing this package for “peace of mind”. In response to their request LHR is now offering the 14 pin FFC “Bundle” for $40.00 plus tax and shipping. The “Bundle” includes a 14 pin FFC cable, 2 PCB connector boards, and a Z-motor pack. Again, the replacement of these parts will not benefit any machine that is working
properly.
