When I start a new carving, my machine stops after about 3 to 5 minutes and displays a "Check Motor Unit, Press Enter to Continue" message.

What should I be checking? I can't find anything in the manual.

Bill, you can check the cut motor sensor ( "options", after power on and then press "7"). Advance the selections until you see the cut motor one. Open the cover, spin the chuck and you should see the readings move. That's about all I know to do. Take the bit out of the chuck first...... safety, you know! This is a common error that doesn't seem to effect the carvings. I got rid of mine by removing the muffler bag on the back.......... heat related, I think.

Ernie,

Thanks for the response. After I get the message and push enter, the machine runs just fine for as long as it takes. I will try removing the bag.

Back blow the bag. That fine dust airborne will get your lungs...

Since I have my unit in the garage and a home made "hush box) I have installed a small blower over the unit and also use a floor fan to keep my unit cool. I agree that heat can cause problems and with the heat and humidity in Houston I do everything to keep the unit cool.

I also back blow the muffler frequently and I am surprised how much fine dust accumulates in the bag.

I built a down draft table for my machine and connected it to my Wood Sucker via 4" hose. I never blew out the muffler bag because it never seemed to have much in it. After hearing about the back blowing, maybe the fine dust was clogging the pores in the bag and cutting down the flow, thus increasing the temperature of the motor. I agree the dust is not something you want to be breathing! I just wanted to pass along what seemed to work for me.

Hey Guys,

I vent the machines Dust post directly through the top of my Down Draft Cabinet,
it pulls a little more air through the top part of the machine.
And helps keep the dust away from the wires and circuit boards.
So far no problems at all with static, and no bag of fine dust to blow out.
Works for me.

Ps. it tracks up and down attached to the machines vent
