Hi,

How do I get a mpc from the program (where to find it) and change it to jpg?

or does the upload feature change it?

I searched but no definite answer.

Thanks,

Are you just trying to get an image of the 3D view of the board from Designer? If so, you can use File -> Print in Designer and print to a PDF (if you have it) or just do a print screen and past it into any graphics program and save as an image.

Jeff,

Can't find "File -> Print" other than just to print. I clicked Print to file but have no clue where that went!

Anyway my problem is that the machine is cutting away too much of the lettering. It's a solid background with ENERGY HOME SPECIALIST cut out. I changed the font to another, less bold, but it keeps breaking the separation between the letters, can't get past EN. No point in cutting any further.

The letters are 1/2" high and the bg is 13/16", depth is 1/8".

Should I try a more narrow stroke font?

Should the CW be able to do this?

I've seen some really small letters in the gallery.

Thanks,

I've never had any luck saving a print from Designer. Use a print screen app. You don't say if you're using 'raster' from your printdialoge box, but if you posted the MPC file we might be able to help.

Signmaker,

Usually the reason for text characters being partially distroyed during carving is the letters are too close together and deep enough for the bit to strike the past while carving the current (note when you use the carving bit it's a "v" so that the deeper you carve, the wider the area carved close to the top of the wood. If you use too narrow (or small) a point size font, then you'll have a problem with the "donut" holes with in some characters, such as the "Aa, Bb, Dd", etc. for the same reason as above. Characters that are larger point sized and broader (such as Ariel Black) make the best fonts for carving, but you can also spread the characters and make fonts larger in size to accomodate far more fancy a font than Ariel and other such sans serif typefaces.

I've discussed the issue before about how a screenshot doesn't provide a valid Designer source image. It doesn't. It's like using a Photograph. It's going to provide SOME kind of result, but an appropriate designer image needs to show depth by pixel brightness, and a photo/screenshot won't work that way. It's complicated, and I'm happy to explain further later, but lemmie get to brass tacks: Check out the following software:

CarveBetter PatternEditor V0.25 as posted by user "Jeff_Birt". See the following thread: http://allcw.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=837#836 The downside is that his software requires Windows XP or Vista. The upside is that it performs a duty that the Carvewright designer SHOULD perform and should have performed since square one (I'm looking at you, software engineers. Shame.).

With this, you should be able to get a .jpg file from an arbitrary .ptn file, but since I'm running Windows 98, I can't check it out myself. I hope this helps. If not, feel free to keep bugging Carvewright. There's a LOT of functionality their software still ought to posess, good though it is.

Hope this helps! Sorry a lot of this image stuff is confusing.

holding the ctrl key (copy whole screen) or alt key(copy only selected window) while pressing the "print scr" to capture the image. then paste it in graphic application.
if that is what you are asking for.

Do a google on 'cute pdf writer'. It's a free utility that allows you to print to a pdf format. It installs and appears as a printer, so you'll have to go into print-setup from the file menu and select 'cute pdf writer' as the target printer.

I've been using it for years. Great tool for free.

Also, it works with any [that i know of] program that has a print option from Notepad to a Browser... that is often how I save browser generated receipts.:)
