Looks like our hobby is quite popular - and competition is good for the soul, right?

It looks interesting. From the phot it look sto have a very limited work envelope and perhaps a lead screw driven Y axis. Talk about problems with sawdust.

Hello,

The Roland EGX-350 desktop engraver product appears to be just an "engraver", not a "carver" in the sense that the CC/CW machines are. It has a maximum cutting area of only 12" x 9". Also, the Sugg. Retail price is $5,495.00 (on 'sale' for $4,749.00)!

From reading the info page I found, my impression is that it is geared for very basic small sign making and engraving only. It apparently cannot carve multi-depth detailed relief patterns like the CompuCarve/CarveWright systems. It seems to be limited to simple graphics and text, but the info page is seriously lacking in specific information along those lines.

Looks like the CompuCarve/CarveWright systems are still unique in the marketplace, and still the best value for most woodworkers by a longshot!

Yea, I noticed both of those as well - Hands down, the CarveWright is king of it's field, but I suspect this new machine may not be the first to try to jump on the bandwagon

From a self centered point of view, I hope these don't become to "common" as I'm making some great extra cash with mine and if everyone has one, they won't need me
