I'm gaining a Daughter-in-Law this Saturday!

I made her a chest that she can use for her wedding cards and then later to keep her wedding momentos in.

Hope you like it. The carve design was purchased from Vector Art 3D

Very nice! Solid wood top, too. Most would have bent plywood. Does the handle for the tray become the handle for the chest?

Thanks for the kind words.

No the tray handle fits inside the arched top. I made a plug for the card slot that is shown in the photo here.

I also made them a knick knack for the occasion. It's about 6" tall and still needs a few coats of finish. (I better get on that) ;)

Wonderful job Router-Jim,

Congratulations to you, on the new member joining your family.
I'm sure your new Daughter-in-Law will love the Chest and Treasure Commemorative Carving
and the thoughts and wishes that come with them. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Great work and application - would it be OK to use an image in our Gallery on the Vector Art 3D website. I would be happy to credit you and provide a link to your website if you have one?

Thanks,
James

Thanks again for the kind words.

James, I'd be honored to have my work shown in your gallery. If you would send me a PM, I'll give you some more info.

When I first saw a Compu-Carve my first thought was not of signs, but rather of "add on" potential to my regular woodworking. I feel it increased the "wow" factor on this project. I love the machine. :)

Boy you have one lucky daughter in law she will love it the craftsmanship you put into the chest. What did you use to cut the dovetails? Was it by hand or did you use a jig.

Thanks OldJoe.

I used a Leigh jig for the dovetails. I choose half blind dovetails because I wanted the carving to be the centerpiece of the front.

The carving took 2 hours in best mode. I was able to cut the DT's in the sides and back and cut the pieces for the top while the CompuCarve did the carving. It was like having 2 people in the shop and of course I couldn't help but look at the machine's progress every 15 minutes or so. ;)

Very nice work!!!

you say you are able to walk away from the machine whilst it still carveth??? I am still in so much awe with what this device can do, my eyes are glued in utter amazement.

Jim,

You are a life saver. My step daughter (and my pumpkin) is getting married (ohhh the plans) next April and that's exactly one of the presents I can give her. What an idea !

Thanks again, Jim
Bob

Thanks again. It's nice reading comments from ones peers.

Bob, congrats on the upcoming wedding. If I can help you in anyway, please don't hesitate to ask.

I am including another photo to show a sense of scale. 24" Ruler.

Jim, did you make the chest plans, or did those come also with the design?
