I got my machine on Friday and I'm on my 3rd test pattern carving in pine. On the first two patterns I wondered about the comments I've read about the machine being loud - didn't seem so to me at all. About 10% into this third cut the machine quit and I got the 'Stop Motor Press Enter' message. I did as instructed and - wow! - RPM, traverse speed and noise WAY UP! Is there some type of break in period in the firmware on this machine?

It's carving away just fine now but I do see where I'm going to need ear protectors.

Hi Cliff,

Sounds a little like you machine was loafing through the first two projects. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif no break-in period,
The neighbor must have turn off the porch light or may be it kicked into over drive. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
I've never hear of one of these machines being to quiet, normally they sound like a 1hp router or there abouts.
Ear protection is always a good idea if your working near the machine when it's carving or in a small shop or garage.
Helps to keep that ringing noise out of your head http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
when you want to relax in the evening and watch a little TV
or work in CW designer on the computer.

Cliff, I posted a few weeks ago about my power fluctuating, but it doesnt change the sound enough to make it sound quiet.... I would be concerned that maybe the motor had drag on it or something like that. Did the flex cable get fresh lube when you got the machine?.... Also, did you monitor the flex cable heat?

One other dumb question would be did you happen to have 2 different bits used in designer, and have it ask for a different bit when it stopped?

Very curious...

I am guessing something faster... shockwave?

My CW will speed up when drilling holes after a carve...

Did your muffler pop off the motor air exhaust?

No, the muffle didn't pop off as I didn't have it on.

I soaked the flex cable over night in a plastic tube full of Gunk moly lube and it didn't feel hot when running.

The carve only required the 1/16 bit.

Well, whatever - it finished the job just fine. This may be one of those ????? things. (I hope)

Any Chance you over lubed the Flex and excess MOLY has gotten into your Cut motor bearing and or the Cut Head Bearing. Like trying to run a fan underwater. The excess lube inside the bearing will cause it to overheat and fail.

Pull your Flex, if it is wet your in trouble.

In normal operation the CW controls the speed of the cut motor, it normally runs a bit slower than full speed. When you get errors related to the cut motor during carving, and choose to continue rather than abort the carving, the CW will cease controlling the speed of the cut motor letting it run full speed (this kind of a please get the carving done (limp home) mode.) Likely, you just noticed the faster cut motor after the error.
