I noticed that the vibration of the probe seems to be less in best quality vs draft quality. Is the probe supposed to run smoothly over the object? It seems like it's pecking at it as it passes over it(for a lack of a better way to describe what it's doing). Anybody take the sharp point off the probe? I know the finer the point, the more detail, but it's like a pin, it's so sharp.

Ijdm,

My eperince with the probe is that it is distructive to wood and probably to most other surfaces.
In a scan on wood, it dented the Pine and then recorded the dents.
When I carved the new piece the dents became part of the new carve.

Ron Justice is workng a softer probe which hopfully better will surve us all.

After a LOT of scans, I have found that coating the scan item with clear enamel prior to scanning minimizes the damage to softer materials. I let the enamel set up for 24 hours prior to scanning for best results.

I have tried multiple coats to increase the resistence to pitting, only to find that it reduces the detail as the enamel fills the smaller detail.
