First, thank you all for contributing to this forum. The tips I found here really saved me when I had a stuck bit last week.

Now that I'm carving again, does anybody know where i can find a pattern or project to make boxes like those shown at http://www.carvewright.com/results.html ?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

I'm currently making this one, but can not now find the post.
I am attaching what I downloaded.

Hope this helps.

According to Yenne the Lion box below the one your referring to http://www.carvewright.com/images/bigbox.jpg is lost :( , if any of the 'smarter' folks here could lend a hand I for one bought my CC in the hopes of making something similar. I'm having a DEVIL of a time with the curves and pattern implementation and NOT beyond begging!!! (hint hint) :)

Julie,

Thanks for the info. I'm bummed its lost but maybe someone has a copy. That was actually the main reason I got the machine - to do boxes to hold specialty glass pieces, so I feel your pain. Then again, the CC/CW is so cool I really can't complain ;-)

Thanks again,

Mike

Julie,

I also spent time looking through the Forum posts and Archives for the Lion Box
and only found a few pictures and comments, but no plans or files.
Maybe it might help if we asked ( very nicely http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif )
if anyone actually built or has one of the boxes if we could possibly get a scan of it or its parts.
If they were to be so kind,
it would give the rest of us a place to start on building one of our own.

My apologies to whoever posted it, as I didn't note where it came from, but I did find this in my project files.

Bob you are SO my hero, has anyone out there replicated the sides? I'm beating my head against a wall here trying to figure it out.

Here are the Jewelry Box instructions I downloaded from the forum awhile back.

These instructions apparently go along with the mpc's that DocWheeler provided above.

Julie,

Is that "nearly nice all of the time" or "nice nearly all of the time"?

Has anyone at any luck tracking down the side *.mpc's? I would really like to make this project. The lid turned out amazing in cherry.

Here is a jewelry box project I saved earlier. Perhaps it might help. (Part 1)

Shanem,

Welcome to the CW Forum,
As far as I know, no one seems to have the .mpc files for the original Box shown in the CW literature of on the Home Website.
Folks have been looking for a couple of year now.
Maybe bringing up the subject again might flush it out from where ever its hiding.

In the mean time here's a couple of photos and a .mpc test file to help you get started in designing one of you own.
If you do please post photos to show how it turns out.

Ken,

Don't you mean .MPC file?

I thought .mpg files were video files?

I know I have them but I'm at work you'll have to wait a couple of hours until I get home. I downloaded them with the Bi-plane project that was posted.

Attached are the MPC files for the free down loads. I downloaded them in September of 07. Don't know if that was what you were looking for

Just wanted to show the finished carve of the top. I just got the machine this week and this was my second carve on it. Took 6.5 hours on best and was done in cherry. My first carve was in pine and I wasn't impressed with the fuzzies but cherry required almost now sanding and I just finished a project in walnut which was also very clean.
Thanks for the quick replys. I can see this forum is a great asset to the machine.

A little gold leaf and that looks like some of the great "old" cigar box tops from the past, Shanem. For a second time project, You done good! Keep it up.

Just wanted to update.

I created a replica of the lion box sides but added my own touch (Girlfriends name). I have it carved out in cherry but haven't been able to glue it up due to school. I'll send along a picture when i finish it.

The mpc contains rails needed for the project. It is a two part carve, one side then rotate the board to carve the otherside. I had to do it this way because I couldn't get the curve right if I carved all four sides at once.

Hope it helps some of you that wanted to carve this box.

Finally finished it all off. Had it carved on the shelf for almost a year. I wasn't sure on how I was going to glue it up.

Dimensions 10" X 12" X 4 1/2"

10" wide cherry, 14 hr carve on best, Danish Oil finish
