Guess I didn’t knock on wood enough times, this one snuck up and bit me while I wasn’t look-in! -- In the middle of a current project I had the machine just stop and display this message.

Z Axis Stall, Error 246, PressStop

Everything had been going so fine, Hmmmph!
I get a Z axis stall error code 246 when I try to start my machine after selecting the carving bit. The motor starts and spins the bit then it measures the board, then moves to the right and stalls. I tried the list below – but no go, -- dead in the water. :(

Possible causes for "Z axis stall" error
1.) Cable to head is hitting cover when it moves to right side.
2.) Ribbon connector in back of head is loose.
3.) Bit Extension plate not hitting bit.
4.) Sensor on head needs cleaning
5.) Clean Z axis rails
6.) Y axis belt screw is loose.

I called CW this morning 11:50 am. Local time and gave the info to Whitney, She said a Tech would call me within 24 hours. At 1:53 Desi a Tech from CW support called and took down some additional information. He suggested some of the same things on the list, plus checking the truck bearings and to formatting the memory card and reloading the projects on it. I’ll try that tomorrow. Seems to be a lot of Z axis errors around here lately.

(2 hours and 5 minutes for the call back – not bad at all.)
I’m just passing along this information for any one else to use or add to.
