Carvings from photographs

:-? I would like to know if I can upload photo's to be carved on wood or plastic, on the software that comes with the $1900. pkg. Or is that with the advanced software?

Yes you certainly can. Take any picture, convert it to a negative, save it and then import it. Check out your photo program, edit and see what they tell you to do to convert to a negative. Mine called it "Invert". There is no other software other than what comes with the machine.

The Designer software converts the shades of grey from photographs into carving depth. While you can import a photograph they do not generally come out well without a lot of manipulation in a seperate editing package, there is just no 3d information in the photograph.

while Jeff is right that pertains mostly to wood, if you use lexan or corian you will see good detail. just do a search for either and you will see some people have used it had success with them.
