Were you using a vacuum with it? mine died same way and I had to exchange it at Sears. It might have been static It might have been anything but it would not turn back on no matter what I did.

FG9074, first make the obvious check, do you have power at the outlet, etc. There have been some machines that have had a part break loose on teh power supply. If this is the case CW will send another power supply to you. Might want to call them Monday.

One of the things Jeff is talking about is the transformer that is part of the CW power supply and a few cold solder joints. If you lay it carefully on its back there are 12 screws holding on the bottom plate, all twelve are the same size. This cover hides the machines processor unit and the power supply. The transformer has been know to break loose of the circuit board due to a bad solder joint and gravity. Just something worth checking is you are inclined. Remember to unplug the unit before tinkering with this area.

With power switch off, remove your project board and lay the machine down on it's back or on the side that the cut cable comes out of the unit. Then just turn the switch on and look at the display. If it comes on then the L2 in your power supply is bad. Tap it lightly if it does not come on while on it's back.

If this works then it's a new power supply you need.

Let us know.

This is pictures of my power supply failure. And it was not a bad solder joint but the copper wire breaking from being pulled as it vibrated like pulling it. Make sure the unit is unplugged while working on it.... We don't want to read about you..... A friend killed himself trying to fix a microwave oven in his basement.... Be careful.

I thank each and every one of you for your assistance, I'm not sure I am capable of doing this kind of intricate work, tho I will go as far as I think I can go, hope somthing works.
Again thank you all.

With the unit upright try thumping lightly with your fist on the area above the keyboard. My unit would go on and off by doing that.

The 12 screws on the bottom of the machine come out with a standard phillips head screwdriver. They are all the same, and the ones that have the feet on them are the 4 corners. When you remove the bottom, nothing will fall out, or anything weird. The bottom of the machine is really really simple. There is a sealed metal box on one side (the carving computer), and a circuitboard on the other side connected to the various plugs (the power supply). Everything is held in with screws. No special tools required. Replacing the power supply is as simple as unplugging a few wires (while the machine is NOT plugged into the wall!), removing a few screws, and removing a single part. Replacing it is just the opposite. If you are comfortable using the rest of your shop tools, you have the skills needed to replace a power supply. The folks at CW can hook you up with a new one, and replacing this one part is preferable to replacing your whole machine if you don't have mechanical problems (you don't know if the new machine you get has been dropped). I'm getting a new power supply, and was shocked at how simple this machine really is to assemble.

Good luck!

If my machine ever has this problem the first thing I would do is ty-wrap the coil to the PC board then bed it with hot melt glue.
The last thing would be spray with conformal coating, wetsuit from hill chemical.
It’s the stuff you see the adds of with the TV underwater and still working.

Sounds like the keypad is unplugged.....

Here is a picture of what you are looking at through the slot. For a better inspection remove the bottom cover. This is from when I had a power supply problem.

Good Luck,

AL

On second thought.... See the picture, #3.... Remove your bottom cover, I bet one of the 2 plugs on the carve computer is unplugged or loose. I fixed Navy Radars and Computers for years then Play Stations with Sony... My money is on one of the plugs to the I/O or Input Output device. The fact that the LCD display works could mean the plug is not in all the way or back to the keypad internal wiring?. AL USN Retired FCC(SW)

Sorry... When the Forum was not letting us post pictures I thought I had reached my LIMIT and deleted a few...

Here they are. With my unit the L2 coil was broken below the component side surface and the solder joint on the underside. It would be a complicated fix without removing the coil and unwrapping one turn to make the length longer or soldering a stub leg on it..... My coil was hot melted in place but with very little glue.... The replacement had a ton of glue on it.

I fixed Play Stations and Power Supplies in my 8 years with Sony.

Here are the pictures.

Here are more pictures. Until I found L2 I saw about a dozen suspect bad cold solder joints and went one by one repairing them. One looks like a finger in a donut with the finger not touching the donut sides.... It was just a bad board with multiple problems. The replacement was an EXCELLENT board, very HIGH Quality.

Being a Circuit Board guy, I found the excuse to use my Soldering equipment so much fun... I miss my days working for the Sony Service Center... Now most of the repairs are done in Mexico... When I started at the Service Center there were 27 US locations.... When I left there were 2..... Progress.
