uploading photos

Anyone know the best file format to start with before uploading a photo. I have photoshop so i can play with the image. I want to do a portrait, but find that the image to be carved is full of weird looking features.

I think a lot of users go for .png as giving a better repro than most.

It has little to do with the format, more to do with how the software interprets shades of grey as height information. (there is NO 3d information in a photo). Do a quick search (tool bar under were it says "Welcome, your name") on this subject and you will find lots of information.
