Vertex tutorials

What are your suggestions for learning how to use the Vertex, Line, Arc and Spline tools?

I've been just playing with a dxf file and clicking on the dots to see what they do. Trial by error. I have found a way to tweak fonts by moving the dots around...yay....but I'd like to learn their intended purposes.

I've looked at the AskBud videos. Any other videos to watch?

Essentially, the vertices are just pivot points.
