New Flexishaft

Anyone replaced a Flexishaft lately, and if so did it still have the spring inside it like they used to?

The new machines do not come with the spring. They say it is really not needed.

Well there goes the best idea for why my carvings have big lines in them after I replaced my flexishaft.

Have you checked the Y and Z bearings?

Do a shallow 1/4 inch carve region circle to PROVE if the machine is really causing this or is it the ART.... If you move the board art up on edge and look, sometimes you can see the bottom of a carve region with art having a rough bottom due to jpg art to png.

This definitely isn't it. I have carved the pattern a dozen plus times and I would add lubricant and it would start doing nice clean carving then it wouldn't after a bit. At first it looked like it might not have been turning properly cause I could sometimes see the cutting edges of the bit, I just thought it was an optical illusion. I'm taking off the dust collector and going to go over all the possible issues.

And the tip of the bit is miscolored like from heat so I imagine its pretty much ruined.

It also is pulling about a 1/2 amp more than it was before. Was mostly running around 3.5 amps and is now running at around 4

It the bit is showing signs of over heating that could be the cause of your problem. That would cause the machine to work harder. I would try the same pattern with a new bit before looking at other possible causes.

Well the bit looked fine before I replaced the flexishaft. I uninstalled and re-installed the flexishaft and that seemed to have ended the big lines.
So I think at this point your right about the bit. or lets hope so.
