How to finish Walnut

I just carved my first cribbage board in walnut after making many in alder. The carving itself came out great but I am a little disappointed in the fact that carving just kind of blends in with the background. How do you guys finish walnut to make the carving pop?

One way I like is Natural Danish Oil. Soak it in, let it soak for a while, then wipe off. Makes Walnut pop out. Sometimes I just leave only the Danish oil for the finish, and sometimes a top coat.
