I built this blanket chest before purchasing my Carvewright so it's not a carving project. Thought it would be kinda nice to show it off a little anyway. Everything is solid Oak except for the aromatic Cedar on the bottom of the main carcass. The carcass is held together with through dovetails that are irregularly spaced and irregularly sized. The drawers are solid oak also and assembled with through dovetails on all four corners.

Great work, Steve! I really like the varied dovetails - adds a lot of interest to the joinery appearance. Did you cut them by hand mostly?

Thank you for showing us the pics!

Thanks Michael and Floyd. I used a Leigh D4R Pro dovetail jig to cut all of the dovetails. It has independently movable "fingers" to allow for an infinite amount of configurations. One of these days, hopefully soon, I'm going to buy a Shopbot Desktop Max. That will pretty much render the dovetail jigs obsolete.

Steve, beautiful construction. Woodworking skills evident and most of all its a beautiful piece. Will hopefully be passed down many generations.

Great job. I need to try that myself. Is it heavy?

Yes! Since it's 100% solid wood it is very heavy.
