How can I help?

I use Ash, Cherry and pine. I moved to an area that does not have Ash or Cherry but Cypress is the common wood. Is Cypress like Pine that it furs up or like Ash (kinda hard) and carves nicely?

Cypress is soft, if you find a tight grain it carvers very well for large patterns, it does not hold a detail pattern well.
If the grain is large you can loose your pattern and just see the grain, I always use select and kild dried for most of my better project, but a large outdoor sign , I will use the air dried.
If you use center line text you wil need to put a sealer in the text first, then paint over the sealer, or it could bleed into the
sides of the text.
Email me and we can talk better than the forum and I can send more pic of my projects
