We've had our machine and have been carving numerous designs in our projects. We want to cut a curve on the edge of the board (the board is a part of the feet for a gun cabinet). We used the spline tool on the toolbar and created the design on the project board. We think that we have to use the "Cut Path" icon but it is not selectable. Is there something special we need to do to get this to cut our pattern? Please help!

Hi Dan,

Welcome to the forum. I'm not a cut specialist when it comes to Designer, but have looked at it a little. The way I understand it, you would have to have an entire path.... ie a path that goes out and eventually comes back to the same origin to be able to use the cut path function. If you have a design that is just cutting through the wood and will not be cutting a piece loose that might jamb the bit and break it, then you could use a tool selection and select the 1/8" cutting tool and set the depth to the thickness of the board (or just slightly short of the thickness of the board so you can cut the rest out by hand. This would work if you just want to cut the shape for instance on one, two or three sides of the piece and cut the rest out via another method. Hope this helps.

Select your path then select the bit and set the depth to cut all the way through if you want. A note of caution, the cut out option will leave tabs to keep your piece form falling out/moving - selecting a bit and setting the depth manually will not.
