Is anyone willing to scan the object shown in the pic for me. I need to have an object scanned so that i could make a copy of it and I don't have the scanning probe.84052

That looks easy enough to make in Designer. It would be smoother than a scan. Post another pic more form the side and I will give it a go.

Here is an example of what Designer can do. (What is it anyway?)

That looks great my concern is that they want to make a mold to reproduce the piece and I need to get the dimensions quite accurate. I wasn't sure about the radi of the corners, and the flats on the inside and outside are different dimensions the half round is a 1/4" round over. Its a type of gasket. I will need the whole figure but only half of the depth since I need to make 2 mirror carves. I will post a picture when I get home from work. Thank you

Seems like the long way around the barn to me. If you want to make a mold and you have the piece to reproduce you don't need a Carvewright. You just need some mold making materials. Cast a mold of the original. Maybe I am missing something.

Or, the CW could be used to directly make the mold.

That is exactly what I'm trying to do but I suck with designer and thought it would be easier to scan. I am attaching a schetch if you would like to try it. On the depths it would only need to be half of course because I will carve two mirror halves.

What version of Designer do you have? 3D add on?

I only have 1.187 no on the 3D. Been meaning to upgrade just haven't had the reason but if I need to I will

I used Designer 3 with the sweep to make the pattern and then made a 1.188 mpc. The arch at the top is just a guess. See what you think. It can all be tweaked as I am sure it will need to be.

I can't thank you enough for doing this for me it saved me more time than you could imagine. I can't tweek the figure when I click on it all I get is the rectangular outline of the entire figure. Any Idea why

I had to make it into a pattern since you do not have the 3D add on. You would only be able to play with it in demo mode and not be able to carve it.

I suggest you carve one out of MDF just to test the idea see how close the pattern is.

I made a "dyslexic" mistake in the pattern. Here are both files.

Here is a better way to make the mold. Use cutting bits instead of a carving bit. The cuts will be smoother, faster, more accurate, and more easily tweakable by you. It uses the 1/8" cutting bit and the 1/4" ballnose.

The 1/4" ballnose is just a standard router bit. The mpc was drawn with a 1/16" (use 1/16 not a decimal) snap grid. Sizes can be tweaked using bit insets.

Sorry its been so long since a reply I had to replace the z-motor and busy with kids sports. I need to tweek the radisus of the corners and the arch. The corners need to be 0.875 and the inside of the arch needs to be 2.75. It will not le me make the adjustments. and it also says that I am using sweep surface in demo mode. Will I still be able to make the carve?

Look at the mpc I posted last. You can edit it. It uses the 1/8" cutting bit and a 1/4" round nose bit. (No carving bit.)

It will not let me make the adjustments save or upload and it also says that I am using sweep surface in demo mode is there any way to turn it off. Its the inside and outside lines that are using the sweep feature

Sorry, just clear the sweep. Double click on the outline and clear all - click ok.

I have it close but I am having trouble getting the arches to line up. I have attached a pattern this is the arch that I have to match, this will be the inner most arch. I can not get the other two (center using the 1/4 inch ball nose and the outter most) to match this arch and get the spacing from your Hoop and Frame mpc to match up. Could you please help

Here is my attempt. I tweaked your original curve to make it symmetric and then used path offset (2D advanced tool) to generate the other curves.

The frame appears to be open at the bottom and the cross member is attached with screws and then plugged.

Thank you it was right on the money. I guess its time for me to update the software and start practicing. Just not enough time right now. Thanks again
