My mother has asked me to make something like this for her upcoming birthday and I am still a bit of a noob with my carvewright machine. I have made some pretty cool things so far but nothing that has a round slope down and then add carving over that. I am hoping someone on here has done something like this before and can help me out. The top flat area would be basically the top of the board and then the secondary circle would slope from there to the bottom of the piece. Kind of like if you flip a plate upside down. Then put some carvings on this sloped area and maybe our family name. If you know how to do this, please help or maybe upload a file I can work off of and mess with. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Something like this?

On the left is the circles with sweep rounded and the right is the pattern from it.

What version of Designer do you have? Any add ons?

Same here, but if he has Designer 3, I would have converted to 3 for better text options.

I made a pattern and am placing a link (https://netorgft2540971-my.sharepoint.com/personal/alan_cncproductionwork_com/_layouts/15/guestaccess.aspx?docid=09931b5ec25354f53af6fa80a29 a857ae&authkey=AVwbEWBqIPLl15IZ6e5Flmg&expiration=2017-03-01T19%3a25%3a05.000Z) that is good for 3 days.

Nice job Alan.

That is nice but I think the pattern ring has to be lower than the center cutting surface. (I suppose you could put a 0 depth circle over it.)

I am using project designer 1.187 and have only the center line text add on. How would I carve some text into the down sloped area and match the pitch of the slope? Is this possible in my version of designer? Alan, what you uploaded looks really nice too by the way. fwharris, I am going to mess around with what you have uploaded too. For my first real post on here, I am very happy with the response and help. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy lol!

You would need the conforming vector add on to do centerline on a carved surface. I think you are stuck with text something like I did.

Alan, If I could ask, how did you make that pattern?

Yes the outside of the circle is slanted round. You will have to use the Arc in the text tool and set it for Raster before setting the Merge Style to Additive. After moving the text you can double click it to re-enter the text tool. I do all my work in GIMP.
