View Full Version : Cut to size only cuts 3 sides

I've run into a problem that I hadn't seen in a while. When I carve a board and select the option "cut to size", it only cuts 3 sides. From the control panel it cuts the far side, left side and near side. Doesn't touch the right side. I'm using Designer version 1.115.
I'm about to upgrade to 1.120, but wanted to hear from others first. I've waited to upgrade after getting a bad update earlier that resulted in an extra hole in my machine. I've read some problems with 1.120, but they don't seem to affect anyone, but I don't recall reading anyone else having this problem with 1.115 either. Anyone care to throw in a few pennies of good sense?

I think that like sitting on a tree branch and sawing it off next to the trunk, what you are expecting the cw to do would leave it with no reference points.
The "cut to size" assumes one true side to start with.

I believe there may be some confusion here. I've done this before and all 4 sides were cut with tabs left on each side to hold the piece in place. Since I'm using keep under rollers, that gives me an extra 3.5" on both the left and right and auto-jig is keeping me 0.5" from the near and far edge. Isn't the intent of cut to size to cut out the project board to the exact dimensions specified in the project? My previous experience was that the board was cut all the way through on all 4 sides with 2 or 3 small tabs left on each side that I could easily cut with a hand tool. What good is cut to size if it only cuts 3 sides?

Okay, the strangeness continues. I've just cut my fourth project of the day and the cut to size worked correctly on the fourth. The machine has not been powered down, but different boards have been loaded. 1st project enabled cut to size, only cut 3 sides. 2nd project enabled cut to size, only cut 3 sides. 3rd project did not enable cut to size and none were cut. 4th project enabled cut to size, and all 4 sides were cut.
I'm baffled. There must be something unique to the first 2 projects that is preventing the fourth side from being cut or perhaps doing 1 project without cutting to size reset something.

Sorry Mathew, I misunderstood completely the cut to size command.
However your description of what the mc is doing would leave me equally baffled.
I hope someone else can offer you better advice.

Matthew,
Are you talking about 4 different files when you speak of 4 different projects or 4 attempts of the same file? If they are different files, you might post a "good" one and the "trouble" one, that someone can take a look. Sometimes someone not close to the project can spot something easier than the person that has been struggling with it. Not sure if I can help but willing to try. Also, the one that cut 3 sides... was the board big enough to allow it to cut and stay on rollers? (dont know if that would be an issue)

I was using 4 different files. In fact, I was using yenne's jewelry box files unmodified. I've done those projects before without problem. I'm going to give it some more testing and see if I can narrow down what's going on. I'll try the same project multiple times and see what happens and I'll try a situation where one fails and then another works and then I'll try the failed one again.
The board was definitely large enough to cut and stay under rollers. I was using a board nearly 4 feet long and cutting multiple projects into it.
