Bit not touching project

Hi, I'm having a problem with the bit not always cutting at the set depth. It runs through the set up procedure ok but then starts cutting maybe 1/16th" above or sometimes just barely touches the wood. I have to start over and sometimes have to two or three times before it will work. I just replaced the board sensor and it shows good. It doesn't always do it but does happens quite often. Anyone know why it does it off and on?

First make sure the bit touches the wood and leaves a little dent. For a test carving it would be better if the touch was where the carving is to be. (Just before the touch, press STOP and choose (3 Jog to jog to where the carving will be.)

If the touch is not working right, the z rails or rollers might be dirty. Check how easily the z truck moves.

If the touch is working right and it still does not carve deep enough, you may want to look at the z encoder disk. It may be loose or dirty.
