how long will the 1/16 carving bit last for and what are the signs that it needs to be replaced?

I was told depending on what your carving around 200 hours

Boards containing glue (plywood, OSB, particle board, etc) will reduce this life.

And dropping the bits on the floor will shorten them significantly. I've only used my 1/4" straight bit once, and now it has a corner missing cuz I dropped it. Obviously it was an important bit for me too. :rolleyes:

Yeah, generally they last until they break.
