Cutting out a text outline

I am trying to get a 1/2 in wide outline of text cutout:
80533
I am cutting it out of 1/4 in MDF, and can't figure out how to get the inside line as well as the outside. Duplicating and scaling doesn't work, they don't line up correctly.

Created the text in Corel, converted to curve, saved as dxf.

I don't have the 2D add on, offsetting the cutline 1/2" gets me the red box.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I just imported a trace (exported as dxf from CorelDraw) into Designer.
