Here a couple sets of bookends and of course everyone needs to do the Last Supper. Need to take them out to the shop and do all the hard work...sand..finish.

Herb, that looks absolutely pretty, are you going to add more color or leave it as is? What were your depth and height settings?

Just curious Herb, did you carve the frame for the Last Supper as part of the carving or was that a sepparate project? Coloring lookes good

I am going to leave the color as is but finish with some poly which I think will make the color a little deeper. This was carved on 3/4" pine at 1/2" deep height set at 100. This is only 8" x 12" and it is all one piece from the ptn that was posted here a few times.

Thanks

Sorry, I feel silly. I went back and look at the pattern. I guess I was always looking at the inner portion of it and never noticed that it had a frame on it. :) Yes the clear should really add some depth to it.

did you use to color the robes of the apostiles? Very nice!!!! Also did you let the carve wright rout the roundovers on the book ends? If so what bit and what depth etc. I have a great deal of trouble using it to do end routing. Many thanks in advance and very nice work!
Thanks again in advance.

My wife stained the piece then used color pencils just so it would be a light shade of color. I used the shaper with a round over bit. I haven't tried the CW for any edge routing yet. With the extra 3 1/2" on each side its seems easier to take it out to cut then use the shaper.

Thanks

I found that the little plastic bottles of acrylic paint work great in coloring my signs. I bought some at Wally World and some at Michaels. They cost less than 50 cents and I have about 10 colors.

I usually coat the piece with wood conditioner and the apply the stain or leave it natural and let it dry. I then paint the images and numbers and later spray the whole sign with urethane marine varnish.

The varnish will protect the letters and numbers from the elements and give the board a long life...I hope!

Can you post some pictures so we can see what it looks like? Sounds like a good idea.
