Y motor replacement on an A machine

I have an A machine that still has an old Y motor installed. I have a C machine Y motor that I put new bearings in. Can I just swap the two motors out, or are different cables needed to change it over?

Seeing something on the top of the cooling fins? Could it snag the FFC Cable as it goes back and fourth?

We are not sure what that is, there isn't an apparent reason for it to be there. It is on all three of the newer Y motors, and it does push down flat. I think he was investigating what it does, and just left it up a little.
