Backgroung is made of African Ribbon Mahogany with wipe-on-poly. Hands are made of Birch with Tung Oil.

Beautiful work!
I wish I could get my hands on some alabaster or Ivory to see if anything could be done on the CW with them. BUt the stuff is way to expensive to simply test on.

Did you laminate the birch on the base first or carve the hands and apply them to the base? I am anxious to try multiple laminations and carve through it to reveal the different wood below. I have seen it done once on the gallery already and liked the effects.

Out standing – the two layer wood color combination makes
it look like modern day cameo, Very nice

This project was done in two parts. I they screwed the hands to the board from the back. However, I have done carvings with layered wood (walnut/oak) and it turned out nice. I just think it's easier this way and much faster. It's a heck of a lot easier "finishing" doing it in two parts.

Here it is. You can thank Ted Grinnell for this, he scanned it and posted it for our use. He did a great job!

Very nice... I tried it this weekend using birds-eye maple and cherry. Wife was happy with her b-day present.
