NO cutting bit for you-

well I just got off the phone to CW and all new bits are going to sears at this time.

I have one cutting bit left and when I snap it i am shut down.

No idea how this works for people in need, I am two weeks in a new project .

Anyone have a replacment cutter I can order??

edit: After looking at old posts on the fourm looks like I can try the "RotoZip 1/4" bit adapter. The part number is CH01"

I have been wainting on an order since the first of feb. I run a business with 300 employees. If I waited that long to ship to my customers I would be out of business.

Not having cutter bits for any of my tools is not going to work for me.

In the old day we would have cutters made for us and I could get almost anything i needed with a week or two, even ground a pair of HSS cutters the shop one time.

When my bits go to sears, it will be hard for me to step in after the tude i got asking for the price protection :-x

I do think the carvewright sales has done it best overall.

I would certainly be looking at alternative suppliers and sources.

If you get some info let us know.

I just removed an old 1/8 cut bit out of the adapter, it snapped after trying to remove it fro the CW chuck for 1/2 hour, only to give up. as soon as the bit spun It disengaged and no more bit.

I am installing a 1/4 cut bit i have for my router and will give that a go.

If you don't need more than 1/2" DOC, pricecutter.com-item # P11-1501.
$16.99. I have one and use it a bunch for the shallower needs.

Price Cutters also offers a 22 degree bit that comes to a very sharp point. They also offer many bits you can use with the CC. Try going to www.pricecutters.com

right now, I need the bit to cut down a tad more than 3/4 deep with a little carving on the sides. The 1/4 shaft will come into play unless I can get 13/16 clear ???.

looking for a 1/8 OD x 3/4 DOC x 1/4 shank. I will try the links...

the p11-1501 specs the cutter as a "up cut" is this best for the CW?
the down cut chips less..

Pkunk, Can you cut out a 3/4 board with the p11-1501 without hitting the 1/4 shank?

THX,

No, Max DOC is 1/2". Flip it over or use a bandsaw or jigsaw. I hardly ever waste the CW time with a full perimeter cut. Real tools are so much faster. :) I'll sometimes use the cut outline so I have something to follow, but spec the depth to 1/16"

Best for me in this case with just the using the carvewright. When its done I use a dovetail saw to remove the tabs the parts just fall out of the scrap.
this save me a few steps. Will see if I can order 1/8 to 1/4 collets.

Must just be lucky have over 200 hrs on the bit that came with my carvewright. still cuts fine The only bit that went bad is the one I dropped to the cement floor. I think that was revenge of the wood Gods .

You can get 1/8 bit cutters at Sears "not the cw ones" with a 1/8 to 1/4 chuck adaptor idem #932350

looks like it will be a good work around with over 1" cut depth.

Thanks for all your help..

If all the new bits are going to Sears, where are they going? I checked on the web and at my local (large) Sears and both systems said there were no bits or accessories available at this time!! I have been waiting on an order of over $200 worth of bits and adapters for a month now.

Somebody doesn't have a clue what's going on in this supply chain SANFU, and I'm beginning to think it's everyone on this side of the Pacific!

I ordered a complete set of bits back in the begining of Feb. I have read of other people who ordered theirs and recieved in less than 2 weeks.

I did figure out the sure fire way to get them though.....
I took the machine back to Sears this morning.

My complete set plus some extras are still waiting to be sent from my Feb order. I did request a partial shippment and got two 1/8 cutters with holder and a few bits without the holders. I needed the V90 and V60, to start making signs and got one of each of them and transfered the holder to them. I was very grateful they sent them. Might be worth a try. I hope they remember to send the extra holders for the bits that were sent without when they come in.

I would advise NOT to use that adapter as what holds the bits in the 1/4" adapters is the two set screws. Now if that was an adapter for the 1/2" collet YES as that adapter is designed to be tightened down with the nut sqeezing it together as the 1/2" adapter works.

mlcswoodworking.com has adapters from 1/2" to 1/8".

As Dan-Woodman just said,
I would advise NOT to use that adapter.
For a few reasons, fisrt it's Mfged for twist compression locking.
Second it appears in photo to be a non-pass through design made of brass ie. problems with dissimilar metal and hardness.
Third I feel a length of 13/16" is not long enough to lock it safety and securely in the 1/4" adapter.

In doing some searching, I stumbled across these guys: Beckwith Decor (http://www.beckwithdecor.com/Cutters.html). They may not be the cheapest, but at least they are long enough and in stock. My contact said he would discuss price for quantity orders. I have not tried these. The first to do so, please report back.

Beckwith Decor Products is the sole distributor for our own set of custom 3d cutters, which are designed for high speed cnc 3d profiling.

The set BDP-3d consists of 3 cutters all with a 1/4" shank, 3" OAL & ball end.
$40.50 BDP001 is a 1/16" diameter with a 3/4" LOC
$54.00 BDP002 is a 1/8" diameter with a 1-1/2" LOC
$40.50 BDP003 is a 1/4" diameter with a 1-1/2" LOC

I received an email explaining that BDP002 is tapered along the entire 1-1/2" LOC, so at 1" depth, the diameter is approx: 0.17" (you can do the fractional conversion:))

just an update to my previous post....

returning the machine did not speed up the delivery of the bits. What I previously failed to mention was that I also ordered a new machine and recieved it today, 4 day turn-around but alas still no full set of bits.

It looks like it is a reconditioned machine and the 1/8 cut off bit appears different slightly but I'll give it a go as soon as I check all the screws connectors etc.

Fingers Crossed.
