Blank screen

I was going to scan something tonight and ran into a problem I've never had before. I was setting my scan area and I pressed enter to set the first corner of the scan, the probe lowered and when I pressed enter to confirm the display went blank. pressing enter again did nothing still blank and pressing stop raises the probe and puts me back to the start of "scan area". I tried it a couple of times in different corners and always the same thing.
I have a c machine and use the jumper cable. I've done scans before ad never had a problem. I can use one of my other machines but that's not solving the problem.
Suggestions?

Reformat and reflash the card and try it again. It could just be a firmware problem. (That is unless the card works in another machine!)

Sounds like the motion of moving down is pulling on something.
