My latest CW project is a crib for my about-to-be granddaughter (she was supposed to leave her "woom" last week but she's getting evicted tomorrow--I think that she was just waiting for me to get the crib finished!). The CW was not only used for the tree carving (from patterns purchased on the PatternDepot), but also to create the bending forms for the top rails on the headboard and sides, and the template for the curved bottom rail and feet. I don't often do paint grade furniture, so I built it like I normally would--it's all solid maple--and then covered it all up with paint.

Very beautiful - great design and execution! I often cringe at painting fine woodwork myself!

Awesome, can't imagine how happy you've made the 'parents'. Sounds like grandpop will be very involved in making sure a little one is properly 'spoiled' with love.
I've had a couple of things I built to be natural but ended up painted. Went against my grain a bit but accepted the finish needed to match the decor of the user. Have recently started remembering to ask about the finish before starting the project and using poplar for most painted.
Again, a beautiful piece of work.
Thx for sharing,
Rick H

Thanks guys. After I agreed to make her a crib, my daughter texted me a picture..."How about something like this?" As they say, the devil is in the details!
