Had a divot in the center of the the last carved piece, so I went looking for the cause. I found a M5 x 15mm Black Phillips pan head machine screw with internal lock washer in the touch hole by the brass roller. Have the cover off the C machine and the head jacked all the way up. Can't find any empty holes, and nothing appears to be loose. Any suggestions?

A picture of the screw might jog some memories.

There are not to many places (I think) that use the locking washers like that. I've looked through most of the exploded parts lists and the only thing close is the mounting screws to hold the Y motor assembly to the frame.

Or parts 126, 127 http://store.carvewright.com/home.php?cat=388

You mean the z motor? The z motor has the washer with the screw. The y motor has the washer with the nut.

How's a screw from one of the overhead rollers sound?

Yes
the Y mounter assembley... see image and parts # 56. I doubt it is those screws though.. just a WAG..

I was just thinking a screw and a washer together could come from the z motor. With the y motor, the washer is with the nut. The bolt would fall into the trough without a washer.

The roller screws do not have washers.

I am going with the left z motor screw!

Bergerud your knowledge of this machine is unreal. there doesn't seem to be to much you can't figure out. Thank god for some of us you are on this site. When I have a problem I usually wait to see if you comment. The help on here from everyone is great keeps my machine up and carving.

I have never replaced a cover switch... any chance it is from the cover switch? With the fine threads, I am thinking z motor screws too....

Or a screw in the bottom of the roller resting plate?
A screw holding the circuit boards on the Z or even the one holding the FSC Cable black cover on the Z Motor.

Sorry to leave you guys hanging. Just got back from delivering a CW project for a 50th Anniversary (pic shared elsewhere on the forum). OK, you guys are really, really good. Thanks. I hope someday I will be able to see the obvious hole where the screw is missing. 77875
