We are having a pokemon birthday party (7yro) for our grandson, I was thinking of maybe a simple carve that his friends could colour or color ;-) and take home with them. Any patterns or ideas. Thank you all very much.

Mike, actually the possibilities are fairly wide. There are like 10,000 pictures of pokemon on the www. They are all mostly in primary colors with no or little shading making them prime for pattern making.

1. Copy the image
2. Open CW designer
3. Import image (either from clipart or saved file)
4. double click on image from pattern library to open pattern editor
5. use magic wand to select different parts to raise or lower until overall you are happy
6. save to you pattern library
7. complete

The enclosed pattern literally took 90 seconds to make.

Hope its a fun party.

Steve's tutorial which he shared on another project on how to do this is wonderful if you are just starting pattern making (https://youtu.be/ebf-6hTUNoE). Steve, had to share the gold. I wish I would have had this when I started.

Thank you Oscar and Roger. That is what I am looking for. I don't have designer but I do have Gimp. I will see if I can do it there. Thanks for the link to Steve's tutorial.

Mike, designer is the basic CW software. You do have it. I am learning it is a lot more versatile than I gave it credit for.

The pattern editor is an add on. Not everyone has it.

Dan, thanks for the info. Mike, sorry for my misunderstanding on that.

Oscar, no worries. The misunderstanding/miswording is on my part, I don't have pattern editor. Thanks bergerud.

Mike, hopefully I can redeem myself with a game idea. Since pokemon is all about battling your pokemon (please don't ask how I know) why not have a bean bag toss game with pokeman decorated boxes. That way the kids can "battle " each other with the different pokemon. You can carve a few of the critters and either make a holder on the box so each kid can swap his/her own pokemon or just have two boxes. quick illustration included for visuals.
