Dispite replacing the Y gear bearings less than 200 hrs ago the shaft on the Y gear is worn. I was smart enought to order the plastic Y gear back when LHR had it avaiable so I have a replacement. My question to the people who have replaced one is what did you do with the thin clear plastic cover that is on the outboard side of the gear (new gear did not come with one). Did you press the plastic gear off the shaft, try to pry it over the flange or just do without it?

The clear plastic cover is just glued on. I used a knife to break the seal to remove it and then used silicone caulking to reattach it.

The gear should have the shaft, replace as one unit.

I might add +1

I guess I did explain my problem clear enough. The problem is I cannot get the plastic cover over the flared end of the shaft, I can trim some of the plastic off but then I won't have a good seal around the shaft.

So the center hole in the clear plastic cover is not big enough to fit over the plastic gear shaft? I would carefully trim it bigger...

Maybe you could post a picture so we (I) can be sure?

The hole in my covers are slightly larger than the end of the shaft. Shaft and gear boss - 0.60" , hole - 0.62". It went on that way, it must come off!

The flange on my gear is definitely larger than the hole in the plastic. To me it looks like the plastic was put on the shaft before the gear was pressed on.768807688276883

Yes, yours is different than mine. A newer version. I do not think the gear and shaft were pressed together to fit the cover between. It went on over the flange, it will come off over the flange. The plastic will have to expand a little. Find some thin instrument to work it around. You could even put a small slice in it. Get it warm?

It is not too critical. The old ones were just a flat piece of plastic and also had an open hole for the brass motor gear to protrude through.

OK that's good to know. I'll try prying if off first.
