What is this

I carved the board no different than dozens before, but for some crazy reason the bit skipped a quarter inch. It does not show in the software at all. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/21/c545bb725ebe181dc39401b1937f857d.jpg

I thought it would be ok and I could remove the section of wood, which I did with a sharp chisel. The rest of the carving all went well, until the machine came to that point, then it shoved the text a quarter to the right making it unreadable.

Anyone know what may be going on here, I'm shy to try another board till I see what went wrong.

Do you think it might be that chuck missing from the knot? The brass roller had to jump the gap.

With that gap in that knot I see in the first pic, I would have to agree with Berg


A little masking tape on the bottom edge helps prevent that.

You are both observant, I really didn't notice the knot, I bet you are right. I love the cedar and its knots though, I will be sure to mask the side against the roller. Thanks guys.
