Hi it is me again. I got the 1/16 deep carve bit and purchased the double sided sea horse from the pat depo. I tried it in 1 1/2 pine with pierced selected. I selected best thinking that would take smaller bites and be less stress on machine. I got a z axis stall about 40 mins in. The cut motor was extremely hot. I pulled the motor and pulled brushes. They look ok. So the questions. Is there a thermal shutoff on this motor? I would imagine this is a 120 volt ac motor? Any ideas short of ordering a cut motor ? I applied 120v directly to it and still nothing. If it is not a 120v motor then i guess I need a motor anyways. Was I pushing the machine beyond limits? Thanks as always. Machine is at 78 hours. Cx model. No dust collection. New flex shaft 1 week old.

Ok I do not have continuity at the black and white wires, it is open. Popped the brush caps off and I do have 3.0 ish ohms across the brush holders. I am going to crack the case open and see if a wire got so hot it unsoldered. Back in a few.

Open field coil. Some melting in field coil housing. I do not see cut motor assembly in parts section. Going to look again. I guess i solved my own problem but it is here for the record.

Found it. Looks like a $40 refund for the core too. That is nice. http://store.carvewright.com/product.php?productid=21488&cat=384&page=1

Better to spend $150 on a Dust collection unit from Harbor Freight before installing new motor, than to buy another motor in 25 hrs :) Portable on sale this month for $119, and a hose - all set. A clean machine makes for a happy CW owner!!!

You will love it when she runs!

Post mortem update. Motor is in fact packed with saw dust. The dust outlet was clear. It was caked in between the windings of the field coil. and it was packed firmly between the field coil in the case.I guess blowing the machine out between projects is not enough. I will install the dust collection system that came with the machine.

The dust fan has 2 sides, the non flex end sucks dust in through the cooling fins past the brushes and through the motor. So like posted above, a dust collection system will be a good investment.
