Not sure if it is kosher to ask this here... but I will ask anyway. Hopefully I won't anger the powers that be... ;)

Would this (http://www.amazon.com/Drill-America-MMO1-32-4FSE-Polished/dp/B006KVFBNE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1423549748&sr=8-13) be an appropriate substitute for the 1/32 bit sold by LHR? Aside from being less than half the purchase cost, I would get free 2-day shipping versus $15 minimum shipping for ground delivery. I know I would have to get an adapter (as of now I only have 1/4 to 1/2) - but even then I think I would come out ahead financially...and then I would have that adapter for any future 1/8 shank bits I may need it for.

My main concern is the difference in appearance between this and the one on LHR's shop site - the amazon bit looks more like a cutting than a carving bit, compared to the bits I get from LHR.

Share a link to your amazon bit and might be able to get a better answer.

No. It is not an appropriate substitute.

LHR sells a 1/32 carving bit NOT a cutting bit. Different function; different bit.

Also, carbide bits need the hard pressed adapters on them to prevent slippage.

Regular shipping to continental US under 3 lbs is $12 not $15.

Connie,
When I bought the machine, I also purchased the 1/16 cutting bit. It came with the split adapter. Should I return it? I haven't used it yet, but I presume it is a carbide bit?

1/8" carbide plus steel to make 1/4". Therefore it can use split collet.

Thanks :) That also explains why my aftermarket V bit is burning - I believe it is solid.

No. But his site does have 1/32 carving bits:

You do not, however, get a pressed on adapter with it.
