downloading third party files

I still have'nt grasp the thid party software I'm not to bright when trying to figure this out...If I was going into a site that has a prewritten program is there some type of program that I need to download that prewritten file?

Are you talking about down loading graphics files (like stl's) or graphics programs (like Meshlab)?
