I just saw that there is a new carving bit. Will there be an update to 2.007 to utilize this bit in designer?

It is only available with the latest 3.0. New features will never be added to 2.007.

Thought that would be the answer, but had to ask :)

I lie to the machine pretty frequently about the bit installed. Since the step over is .005, I would think you would just see a bit more detail. Something to try after I replace my y gear this week!

Do you know if version 3 is set up to run slower when this bit is selected?

The times are very close but the 1/32 does take a little longer. I compared the 1/16 and 1/32 for a small carving: 54:29 Vs 55:44 for optimal and 14:20 Vs 15:17 for normal. Not a big difference. What I think is more important is that the new software would do the bit optimization calculation for the 1/32 bit.

I have had a 1/32 carving bit for over a year now but was afraid to use it. The tip looks so delicate, I could see it breaking at the start of a carve on the way in. I have not tried it with the new software yet. I am hoping that the start to a carve is more gentle and accounts for the small extra time with the new version.

On the other hand, we have seen others use a 1/32 to carve lithophanes. All you can do is try it. Lots of feather for gradual entry and set on optimal and you should be ok.

Evidently, they have been pretty brutal with it even carving pierced carving projects, but yes... Drop the bit and the tip can become a 1/16th.

How's that old Disney commercial go... "I'm too excited to sleep!" Might have to get 3 after all :)

Bogus how they keep doing things to try and force you into 3.0 .... And the reply says it all ... " New Features Will Never be Added to 2.00X " .

KT, I certainly agree. As a company, they suffer from an absence of good customer relations ethic. If it were not for the great folks on this forum, they would go down in flames. It's like buying a Ford and it was in the garage more than it was on the road, and the only way to keep it running was to talk to other Ford owners. LHR certainly doesn't have a presence here - and I don't consider Connie's snappy one liners a presence.

Yesterday, they lost a $300 sale over an $11 part. v3 and a couple of new 1/32s.

Microsoft just stopped supporting Windows 7 (no more updates) and I have 2 computers using it. I will eventually have to go to Windows 10. That is the standard. LHR is a small company and they have to make money to stay in business. They gave us free updates as long as they could. My preference is to pay for updates and have LHR stay solvent. I don't have money, I am retired on a diminishing/disappearing income.

I have the 1/32 bit and I have upgraded my software, but do not see any offering the set the bit to 1/32. I carved this morning and my machine still calls for the 1/16. Help?

Just verifying that you are updated to 3.102 version and you are not seeing it in the change board setting or the bit selection tool box?

Thanks - I was suffering from Operator Headspace and Timing issues!

This is a carving (raster) bit. You change the carving bit under EDIT > BOARD SETTINGS > PATTERN BIT.
