Techniques: need help

I'm about frustrated to my limits. I'm using 1.187 and trying to draw a box within a box.. sounds simple. But every time I left click segmented line tools and start my drawing using my grid system. Draw several lines with no problem then before I can complete the task. BOOM!! somehow it reverts back on its own to the pointer tool. And I'm all messed up. I'm sure it's a head space and timing issue with me, but I need someone to put me in the right direction. I'm simply wanting the inside to be 7" across the sides and back and outside to be 7 1/2". You can choose the tool again and click on the last red dot to continue or just use the rectangle tool. Sounds like you are double clicking on a node which means end here.

is this what you are talking about, the first box is a region and the second box is a region too with a zero depth.
I don't know if this correct.
