View Full Version : Maximum Carving Depth?

A Happy and Prosperous 2015 New Year for everybody!

I'm doing a simple project but there is something that I don't understand: the carving depth is drastically limited, despite of fact that the carving bit allows a much greater value. What is wrong here?

Thank you for your pertinent advices and comments.

I think it is that your board thickness is 2.2 cm which is .06 in. deeper than maximum cut out in version 1.87.
2.0 will let you go to 1" or 2.54 cm if I am not mistaken

This happens in version 1, but not version 2. (probably not in 3 either)
Not sure of the reason.

Why use a carve region at all since you are probably not use the carve region inner circle?
It could be created a lot faster just using the 1/8" cutting bit.
Use the bit to remove the unwanted material just outside of the inner circle.
Two route paths and two cutouts with no carve region.

Why not make the pattern on three separate boards and glue them together that would make the thickness 2.25

I'm not familiar with cm so forget what I said so what does that add up to in inches ?

I'm thinking that this is the right alternative to solve the issue; however I'm not enlightened why I cannot carve at this reasonable depth (0.7 cm = 0.276 inch and the board thickness is 0.866 inch).

Thank you for your solution.

The error is not for the carve region, it is for the cut path.

Floyd,

Why doesn't it give that warning on the outside cut-path?
If you remove the inner one, it loads without an error.

Ken,

Great question but I have no clue.

I uploaded your pattern and had no problem, I changed the depth to .25 per pass.. you need to change to four tabs and the 3/16 high instead of seven tabs

Like I had said I'm not familiar with cm you should only have 4 tabs per cut out for what you are doing

I think this is just a bug in 1.187 which has been since fixed.

At the end I did it with 1/8 inch cutting bit (I think this is faster way). Thank you everybody for the pertinent comments and advices.
