Are there any tips for taking a photo and editing it to look good for carving using coerldraw x3. I've tried a few things and the pictures(faces) come out textured.

Newcarver, you can do much more with a photo using Photopaint, and playing with the contrast, etc. You also can also identify trouble spots after viewing the imported image in Designer, go back to Photopaint, mask and adjust the grayscale of that particular area...

It ain't easy to take a photo and get an actual high-quality carving out of it... they will look good in pictures and from a few feet off, but under close scrutiny, it takes some work to get a photo to look nice on the wood...

Still learning myself.......

Ran into these this afternoon, 79 short demos on CorelDraw.
Not sure how helpful they might be to any of us but I thought it was interesting.

That's funny, because my brother-in-law is in the sign business too, and sent me that link only a couple days ago. He also posted it in another forum... ( http://www.letterhead.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/46447.html )

Really nice tutorials!! Here's a clickable link...

I think I'll put a link on my website for it as well...

Thanks!

I found that de-speckling and blur tools are the ticket to remove extra texture from photos and other imported images. I have these tools with the pattern editor (probe software) and I can see in real time the difference it makes on the ptn.
Don't forget that the CW used shades of grey to set the depth of carve. so even a B&W photo will not give a true 3d look. dark hair would be cared much deeper than a lighter complexion fore head.
