I recently downloaded and installed OS X Yosemite Public Beta and my Project Designer stopped working. It crashes immediately upon opening it. Has anyone installed Yosemite on their mac and still able to use Project Designer?

Here is the crash report if that helps. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, I confirm this error with GA Yosemite, same error:

Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libGL.1.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/CarveWright.app/Contents/MacOS/libnmtlib_i386.dylib

Running latest version of Designer 2.

Please fix ASAP.

I'm available for testing if needed.

OK I figured out a, perhaps temporary, solution. It would seem that the X11 files are now in /opt instead of /usr.

You can create a symbolic link between the two folders by issuing the following terminal command:

sudo ln -s /opt/X11 /usr/X11

you will be asked for your password, enter it and Designer should now work for you.

It would be nice if this could be fixed in the program, so it looks for X11 stuff in the folder where it now resides.

Thanks.

This information about x11 now being required is listed in the installation instructions.

Glad you figured it out.

We do not support Yosemite, yet, as it has not even been released. Once it is, we will try to get a copy for us to test how it works with Designer.

Thank you very much. It works now. The XQuartz 2.7.7 fixed the issue, 2.007 is working now.

Hi there. Yosemite was released on Thursday 10/16 :)

Thanks, happy to be up and running again.

BTW: I had Quartz 2.7.7 installed before, it's used not only by Designer but also some other programs I run including Inkscape. But when going to Yosemite, Inkscape still worked, but Designer didn't. So there is maybe more to it than just installing Quartz.

UPDATE: A little more digging confirmed what I had found. This is a quote from another forum:

"... the Yosemite installer deleted the symlink between /opt/X11 and /usr/X11 ..."

So either reinstalling Quartz, or recreating the link as in my previous post will do the trick. Looks like there is no action required on CW's part.

Thanks

...Peter

Thanks for posting this. I was just about to contact support, but thought I would check the forum first! Awesome!!! Now back to designing!

If we change the installation for Yosemite users, then it will not work for every other Mac user.

OK...tests complete.

Installing Yosemite erases a link that is needed from x11 (Quartz).

Just run the re-installation of x11 and the link will be fixed.

The suggested line of code offered will work, but is much more dangerous for those that "just know enough..."

Here are the instructions for x11 install or re-install after Yosemite OS upgrade:

Click link and follow instructions per Apple support: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5293

You will also need to prevent App Nap:
Right click on Designer program icon
Go to Get Info
Click on Prevent App Nap

Here is a new location to find that file:

This is the link to download X11. http://xquartz.macosforge.org
