I finally finished carving my first wide sign, with the help in the forum. Thanks guys. Its a 2 piece 1" oak 29" x 60". (around 50 pounds) glued top & bottom together and then glued it to a sheet of plywood so that it could not break n half. Might be overkill. I wasn't taking any chances.
My question is in staining it. I've never stained anything so large. Was concerned about being able to cover it without blotching or getting darker areas where the stain overlaps. From what read, oak is not supposed to be an issue, but I sometimes see the darker shades with this wood. Painting it would be a easy copout. Is there a good technique in staining large areas especially where you have carved areas and text. Any help would be appreciated
The other half of the question is how would to mount this sign to a outside wall on a pole barn without drilling holes through it?
