Has anyone ever used the PVC boards you can buy at lowes? Thinking of giving them a whirl for some outside signs.

Yes I used it for outside garden signs, carves well, does not stick to your machine and is very weather proof.

Awesome. I just bought a big board. My first project is some simple parking signs for work. If that fairs well I aim to make another of my 4 foot tall squadron patches. Any recommendations on joining the boards? Urethane glue?

The stuff in the can? It didn't melt your lines at all?

I have used them to make boat name plates and they carve and paint very well.

I used the PVC Pipe Cement to glue the 12 inch wide boards together. Primer then glue and clamp and wait....

Well the stuff carved pretty well. I figure if the Vbit can plunge that deep for lettering with no problem then I should be good as far as that goes. The only concern I have now is the ends. Looks almost like mdf. Actual holes in it and I would think I need to seal all that. What do you guys think?

Only to protect the paint on my boat name plates I sprayed a few coats of spar urathane. I really was not worried about the ends as it is waterproof pvc used for house trim and siding.

So the edge that looks like mdf, don't worry about it at all?

I assume were both talking about the same thing. Lowes and Home Depot sell a PVC trim used for exterior on houses. It is solid PVC. That is completely waterproof and even UV resistant.

Great. That's what I needed to hear. Just put some exterior primer on the first sign just for painting purposes. Fairly easy project so far. Excited to see the results. Thanks much.

Wanted to pass along that Lowes now offers AZEK 1 by 12 by 8' boards by online sales. Three boards for about $100 and shipped to your home free.

I've carved a few outdoor signs with their narrower trim boards available at their stores and used the AZEK brand adhesive (can with brush) with great results.

I used water based latex sandable primer since the finish was going to be latex paint anyway. Not sure how other sealers would work but perhaps thinned shellac like Bulls Eye Sealcoat would work as well and folks tell me it will hold up well under lacquer and or enamel top coats. Just another 2 cents worth.

I also found that if you get the 1x8 azek boards and glue them together with the azek glue you get a board exactly 14.5 inches wide which is the largest width that fits in the machine.

Isn't Azek the same thing as PVC? Sure looks like it to me.

Well it came out pretty well. The paint stuck pretty well. We will see how it holds up around a bunch of jarheads now. Time to do the other 2
