My wife recently acquired a long arm quilting machine that uses large spools of thread and of course many bobbins. With only 53 cabinets and 36 drawers in her craft/sewing room, she had no place to store the new thread. So this is the wall hung thread and bobbin fixture I carved up a while back. It's a simple project that can be done in a week end. The .mpc is posted below for any of the ladies (or gentlemen)on the forum who also sew who wants to make such an object. Just modify the text as is appropriate. The side boards are 3/4" x 2-1/2" wide, the thread boards are 3/4" x 3-1/4" wide, spaced 5-1/2" apart and set into 20 degree from horizontal groves in the side boards. The large spool dowels are 3/8" diameter wood dowels 3" long and the bobbin holders are 16d nails with the heads removed. Everything is just glued together and the unit is hung from two nails (or screws) set into key holes in the back of the side rails.

Of course I took this photo with my iphone with the home button down...why it comes out side ways here I don't know....

Great design. But you'd better make one or two more as that one won't hold all the thread(s) a sewer needs.

Is that a bribe to let you keep carving?

Great piece of work! I like the carvings on the top. I have a niece that I have been searching for a project to give her. This looks like the solution. Thanks for sharing!

Nice job, several years ago I made a thread rack that holds 250 spools, I can't let my wife see this or I'll be making another one!
