Can any tell me the total carving depths for the old carving bit vs the new 2" carving bit?

I understand that I will need to upgrade from 1.187 to 3.0 to use the new 2" bit is that correct?

Thanks
John

standard 1/16" carving bit allowed up to 8/10"
New long bits are 2.125" deep

The CarveWright 1/16" Long Carving Bit allows for 2" deep carvings.
Max cutting depth with this bit is 2.125 inch.
The 1/16" long carving bit comes with a CarveTight adapter only
Requires the Project Designer 2.003 or higher

Ok, I'm really confused I tried to create a plaque being 28" x 36" x 2" in depth. I put a carved region at the max carve of 8/10" and then added elements and carvewright changed my depth to .828 and then said that some carvings were too deep to carve. What am I missing?

I don't have any experience with anything above 1.187 but have you upgraded yet? I'm sure the 1.187 won't allow you to assign the extra depth. Suggest downloading a trial version if you have not upgraded. Won't let you carve but you can play with the features and see your results in designer.

I'm using 1.187 and trying to carve the max depth, but it changes everything to .828 then tells me that some carvings are too deep to carve... why?

Would suggest you post the MPC so those more knowledgeable will be able to answer your question.

Check to see what the "elements" depths are. Some might be deeper than 0.800". You are using the 1/16" carving bit, right?

Thanks for everyone.. I was able to change the depth to 0.800 and everything sees ok71207

Any thoughts on what I should charge for carving this project? It will be two boards each being 36x14x2 carved at 0.800 each

Thanks

Simply put, 1.187 can not handle anything deeper than 8/10". If you try to design anything deeper it won't. Deep carves came in with 2.0.
