Nice project! Where did you get the STL? I have wanted to try a project like that. Any pointers on what to plan on to maximize success?
Thanks for sharing !

Steve

You can find stl models at Yeggi,GrabCad, AutoDesk123. This model was from sketchup converted to a stl file.
There is some trial and error when slicing the model. At first you don't succeed try try again.
This model I started by slicing the front and rear, then the sides, then from the roof down.

blantz wow very nice work. Any tips on glue up. How long was the carve time.

Glue-up was not too bad. Used rubberbands and tape as clamps.
The test model had taper on the edges to be glued because of the carving bit which caused alignment issues.. On the final model I added the 1/8 straight bit to straighten the sides to be glued. This cleaned up the taper but I neglected to add some width to the original piece to make up for the taper difference. The front and rear pieces ended up a little wider, extra sanding fixed the the width issue.
Carve time was fifteen hours on optimal. Length of the model is twelve inches.

There is a "7 degree" setting in the STL importer which accounts for the taper of the carving bit. I'm not sure how to take advantage of that, but I believe there is a tutorial video that may explain it.
