Does it makes sense to pay attention with the grain slope as you should on a planer? This may have been covered but I don't have time to really search and will just try it anyhow.

I never have, the planer issue is due to the long flat blade making slices across the face of the board. The carver is maling rotary cuts moving in multiple directions. You will see a diffeence in the 'fuzzies' on one side where a cut crosses the grain. One side very clean the other side not so clean depending on wood type and quality setting. No matter which way you load the board grain it will still be cutting across the grain at some point. The harder the wood the less fuzzies, better quality setting less fuzzies.
