Black working piece

I am carving a piece I painted with gloss black. I get a board sensor error. I do a board sensor test and get readings from 2-7.

Any tricks to get this to work?

Masking tape on the edges where the board sensor will read.

Adding to Dan's response: Light colored tape, not the dark blue.
Tape needs to be less than an inch on the top and bottom edges.
And, the tape on the ends needs to be 1-1/4"+ in the X direction.

Also run a strip of tape across the center of the board and when U place the board in the machine make sure that the tape is under the truck so the board sensor can read it when it takes it's first measurement which is the width ....
