One of the CW's strengths is absolute repeatability when you've created a design and fitted your wood into a carrier. Here's a project I did not expect so it was unique to me. The Walton High School Boosters Club commissioned new lockers for their team and a fellow craftsman making the cases asked me to carve doors for them.

By the time you've run a carving 25 times you know the sound of every cut being made all too well. It has been interesting but I don't think I want to become a production shop if I can help it. Does however keep me in Single Malt refreshments these cold winter nights.
Thanks for looking

That's a very good production run. That is the same way I feel sometimes when I am getting ready for another Craft show season.
48 set of coasters, 28 new yard signs, production can be boring, but that what makes the money, if you don't have them, you can't sell them.
Hope you are doing well.

Aye Aye Capt. Nice job indeed. We didn't have anything that nice when I was in school. Of course, I don't think the dark ages had any CNC routers.

Thank you all for the kind comments. It was an interesting project since most all of my work is one or two copies of a particular design.

Since there were 25 of these to produce and the doors were pre-cut and the edges already profiled I made a carrier to drop each one into and run it. Since that took care of any door measurement differences it just involved loading and letting it confirm the sled dimensions. One bit change from raster carve for the letter W and then vector lines with parallel cuts by the 3/16" cutting bit to make all the nested diamond shapes. The process per door took 20 minutes and I generally carved about 5 at a session and then gave myself and the CW a break.

Michael T, I owe you a beverage or three for your video on using CorelDraw to set up the pocket cut filled with lines as this was perfect for the layout of the incised diamond elements. I laid out the full size diamond, filled it with the automatic steps from center based on the 3/16" bit and then just deleted the appropriate cut lines to leave the top surface areas un-cut moving in to the center.

Thanks again All.

Thanks Robert,

I know what you mean and I'm half afraid they are so pleased with the results that they want to order more lockers for the other teams. A two edged sword as the profits were nice but it ties up time on my machine. We'll see what comes next.

Here's a quick follow up on the locker doors project. The finished products installed last week.

Now we'll wait and see if the other sports teams are jealous enough to want their locker rooms re-done too. Thanks for taking a look.

They look great, Captain Bruce. Super job and my guess is a visiting team will have grounds for a complaint as they will be competing in an uneven locker room situation :)
